Dr. Michael Krak, Sr.

Of Pittsburgh on June 27, 2015, age 93.  Son of the late Andrew and Helen Krak; beloved husband of 60 years to the late Joan (Lesutis) Krak; father of Michael (Lydia) Krak Jr., Edith (David) Lowe, Ronald (Lauren) Krak and Robert (Jean) Krak; brother of the late Andrew Krak, Anna Mitro and Mary Fedoris; grandfather of Allison, Michael, Emily, Matthew, Natalie, Megan, David, Justin, Jonathon, Andrew and Angela.  Michael was a Veteran of WWII and Korea serving in the Navy.  He worked with Jonas Salk and other colleagues in the initial polio vaccine trials.  Michael was an Associate Emeritus Professor in Pediatrics at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine.  He practiced pediatrics in the Steel Valley for 44 years.  He loved and was committed to all of his family, friends and patients.  Family and friends will be received at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall on Monday 6-8 and Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM.  A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, 10:00 AM at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Homestead.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Krak’s memory to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh 4401 Penn Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15224 or Mario Lemieux Cancer Center 5115 Centre Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
