Donald L. Schoenewolf
Astute businessman, photographer, nature-lover, family man, 76
Don died on July 11, 2019. He and Libby had recently moved from Fair Haven to Atlantic Highlands, NJ. Don was a son of the late Louis and Alice (Hildebrand) Schoenewolf; beloved husband of 54 years to Elizabeth (nee Housman); loving father of Rebecca Nancy Schoenewolf and David (Rev. Heather) Schoenewolf; brother of Walter (Jane) Schoenewolf; proud grandfather of Samuel Foley, Meghan Foley and Noble Schoenewolf.
Don was a graduate of Caldwell H.S. and Colgate University. He further earned the degree of CPCU and was a member of RIMS. Don was a Director of Risk Management for multi-national corporations including Gulf and Western, Hanson Industries and Millennium Chemicals. In retirement he became an award-winning photographer specializing in nature and birds.
Don served a term as president of the Lincroft Unitarian Universalist Congregation and as the Chair of the Endowment Committee, among other positions. Don relished serving as a youth advisor for 25 years, which included going on camping trips and regional weekend conferences. A particular pleasure for him was being an advisor for week-long youth conferences on Star Island, which served teens from across the US. His workshops on Creative Thinking and Taoism were always full. His greatest joy was as a father and grandfather.
Don will be remembered by his family as a birder, photographer, kayaker, avid reader of histories, loving Grandpa and reluctant charades time keeper.
A Memorial Service will be held on Nov 30, 2019 at 11:00 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County (UUCMC), 1475 W Front St, Lincroft, NJ 07738.
