Of Lorain, OH, formerly of West Mifflin on Aug. 1, 2018. Age 80. Jean grew up in the iconic pink cottage on Homestead Duquesne Road that her father Henry Schoaf built with fieldstones he hauled from a local quarry during the Great Depression, and her mother Marie (Rohosky) Schoaf surrounded with Azaleas, grapes, and a vegetable garden. Jean first noticed Jim, her husband of 57 years, when he delivered flowers to Homestead Hospital, where she was beginning her career as a Registered Nurse. She was so excited by seeing this former high school football player, that she tried to fix her best friend up with him. Jean’s generosity only flowered over time. She is revered by the many young women that she taught to pitch a tent, make a fire, and shoot the rapids during the ten years that she served as a Girl Scout leader. Jean raised two children, Glenn Murray, an architect for the city of Cleveland, and Cara Murray, a college professor in Queens, New York. She passed on her love of swimming to her grandchildren, Abigail and Andrew. Jean cared for her mother who lived with Alzheimer’s for fifteen years and devoted herself to nursing dementia patients at the Center Ridge Nursing Home. She is survived by her husband, her children, grandchildren, and her brother, Bill Schoaf of Aurora, Ohio. Friends received Savolskis-Wasik-Glenn Funeral Home, Inc., 3501 Main St., Munhall, Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral Mass Wednesday, 10:00 AM, St. Agnes Church, West Mifflin.
