On May 12, after a long and courageous battle, Bill was called home. He was welcomed by his parents William and Helen Marcella (Wall) Whalen, brothers Jack (Dolores), Paul Donald (Nina), Robert, Edward and sister Patricia. He is survived by his wife, Helen (Koval) Whalen, daughter Jessica of Pittsburgh and son Brian (Katie King) of North Huntingdon, grandsons Robert and Sean, brother Richard (Marge) of Portland, Oregon, sister -in-law- Keiko of Pensacola, Florida, many nieces and nephews, and longtime friend Jack (Fran) Walters.
Friends received Savolskis-Wasik-Glenn Funeral Home Inc., 3501 Main St. Munhall, Thursday 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Friday 10 AM St. Therese Church, Munhall.
After graduating from Munhall High School, Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in the Munhall, Homestead and West Mifflin branches and was a member of National Association Letter Carriers (NALC). After his retirement, Bill became a Certified Teaching Assistant with the Clairton School District.
Bill was a kind and loving man with a quick wit and endless charm. He was a great listener and a kindred spirit to many. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; walking his dogs, feeding the birds and spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
