Anna Mae Magnes Obituary

Anna Mae Magnes (Rizzo), 88, of Amherst, OH, formerly of West Homestead, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

She was born on May 20, 1937 in West Homestead and had resided in the Amherst/Lorain, OH area since 1968 after moving from Pittsburgh. Anna Mae was the Secretary to the Superintendent of Amherst Schools for over 25 years before retiring.

Anna Mae was a very resilient woman who always had a smile on her face, had a deep love for her family and a tremendous sense of adventure. She traveled extensively, having visited all 50 states, over 35 countries and all seven continents with her latest adventure being Antarctica. She enjoyed visiting her grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, and was very supportive in attending their activities. She was also a snow bird and wintered with close friends whom she met every year in Las Vegas for over 30 years.

She was a former member of the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Homestead, PA, the AMVETS #47 Ladies Auxiliary in Lorain, and the Amherst Community Choir. Most of all, Anna Mae will be missed for her telling the greatest stories including having authored and published a suspense novel two years ago at the age of 86.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Crowle, Donald (Mary) Magnes, and Michael Magnes; grandchildren, Nicole (Javari) Neal, Devin (Joseph) Fraterrigo, and Zachary (Addie) Crowle; great grandchildren, Ava, Lei-Lani, Javari, Jr., and Aurora; sister, Josephine (the late William) Stevens; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul R. “Pittsburgh Paul” Magnes in 2006; son-in-law, David Crowle; parents, Michael and Rose Mary (Scalise) Rizzo; and sisters, Philomena (the late Thomas) Noll, Rose Marie Rizzo, and Rose Marie Burris.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, March 19, 10 AM - 12 Noon at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA 15120. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12 Noon at the St. Maximilian Kolbe Church of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Homestead. Interment at the St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery, Munhall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either Doctors Without Borders or the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
