On Friday, January 26, 2024, Charles “Gus” Thiem, formerly of West Mifflin, went home to be with the Lord. He was born on January 2, 1933 in North Braddock, PA, a son of the late John and Rose Thiem. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, John, Edward, Bernard, James and Paul. Gus was the beloved husband of Evelyn for 57 years. He is survived by his wife and his three children, Pam (Jonathan) Goodish of Washington, Dan Thiem of Duquesne and Heather (Fred) Franci of Falls Creek. He was the adoring and proud grandfather of Brooke, Maggie, Bailey, Matthew and Bella. He is also survived by his sisters, Alice (Doc) Lanowitz of North Braddock and Peg Safran of North Versailles, and nieces and nephews. Gus was a graduate of Scott High School in North Braddock and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Westinghouse and Elliott companies. Gus was the most kind hearted, generous and godly man. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and cared deeply for his family, friends and neighbors. He was an active outdoorsman and had a passion for hunting, gardening and sports. He was also talented at woodworking, metalworking and playing his mandolin. He will be incredibly missed by all. Gus will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Braddock Catholic Cemetery. No visitation. Services private.
