Edith Putanko Obituary

Of West Mifflin, on February 21, 2024, age 89.  Daughter of the late John and Helen (Simyon) Kohut. Edie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John Robert Putanko, her brother James (Helen) Kohut, John (Anna Mae) Kohut, William (Helene) Kohut, and Edward Kohut and her sister, Ethel (Lawrence) Lintner.  She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Edith was a member of St. Elias Hungarian Byzantine Catholic Church where she served as secretary for many years. She was a member of the St. Elias Financial and Advisory Committee, Anniversary Committee, Centennial Committee, Bingo and taught Eastern Christian Formation (ECF) classes.  After graduating high school, Edie worked as a Kelly Girl at Bettis where she met her husband, John. Many years later, she went to work for Mr. Haines as a private secretary where she enjoyed a long and rewarding career until she retired. Edie was a guest on "What's It Worth?" on KDKA-TV2 every Saturday morning for nearly four years. She was a long-standing member and appraiser of the Three Rivers Depression Era Glass Society. In 1981, she and her husband, John, opened John’s Antiques and Edie’s Glassware where John repaired clocks, watches, lamps, and Edie bought and sold glassware of the depression era including elegant. After several years, she became the proprietor of Edie’s Glassware located in South Park at the corner of Route 88 and Broughton Road and John continued his repair work in the back of the store. Edie always welcomed anyone who came to her home with open arms and was well known for her many dinner parties. She always made the time to provide good advice to those in need of help. She enjoyed travelling to many states for glass shows and always returned with many stories and information to share of the sites and restaurants. Family and friends will be received at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall on Sunday, February 25th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.  A Panachida Service will be Sunday evening at 7 PM.  A Funeral Liturgy will be on Monday, February 26th, 11 AM at St. Elias Byzantine Catholic Church, Munhall.
