Eleanor Kondis Obituary

Eleanor A. (Lesko) Kondis, longtime resident of West Homestead, passed away of natural causes on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Longwood at Oakmont Retirement Community at the age of 90. Eleanor was born August 21, 1930 in Munhall to the late Andrew B. and Mary (Fedor) Lesko.  She was the loving spouse of 66 years to Stephen L. Kondis, who preceded her in death in 2020. She was also preceded in death by brother, Alfred Lesko, and half sisters, Dorothy Cipa, Elsie Tirpak, Martha O’Connell and Bertha Starobranski. She is survived by her children, S. Jeffrey (Patricia) Kondis, David (Jenifer) Kondis, and Susan (James) Sieger; grandchildren Lindsay, Dylan, and Peyton Kondis, Nicholas and Adam Sieger, and Keith (Katrina) McBride; and great-granddaughters, Ophelia and Saga McBride.

She was a 1948 graduate of Munhall HS.  After graduation, she attended business school and began working in medical records in Detroit and Pittsburgh, then assisting with bookkeeping in her husband’s Munhall dental practice. All the while balancing the robust workload of raising 3 children and managing the family household. She served tirelessly on many volunteer opportunities for numerous dental organizations with her husband as well as all of her children’s endeavors like scouts and little league, local Steel Valley area community organizations and her church.  She was also an avid fan of local sports, a long-time season ticket holder for Pitt football and basketball, as well as local theater. Once the children ventured out of the home, Eleanor returned to active employment assisting in the local state senate offices of Senators Dawida and Costa where she served as a loyal and valuable member of their staff, then finally retiring in her 70’s. Pursuing a lifelong interest, Eleanor became an avid world traveler visiting Ireland, France, Italy, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and taking numerous trips through Europe with her husband and other family members and friends.  These trips, along with raising a loving family, and deep friendship with a large circle of neighbors, friends and family, were some of the highlights of a life well lived. Eleanor’s family wishes to thank the staff at Longwood, and numerous aides from the Care at Home and Right at Home agencies and Heartland Hospice for their loving and professional care during these past few months.  You all helped to make her life more enjoyable following all of the challenges of 2020.
