Gary Francis Horensky, 70, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 17th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Lynne for 42 years; the proud father of Rachel and Philip; and dear father-in-law to JC and Georgia. Gary was “Pap” to his three grandchildren - Jackson, Levi, and Harper - who adored him. He was known for his selflessness, sarcasm, humility, unwavering support of family and friends, and resilience, especially during his two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on February 29th, 1956, Gary was the son of Dorothy and John Horensky. He attended Bishop Boyle High School and chose to begin his college education at John Caroll University, where he played both football and baseball. Gary later transferred to the University of Pittsburgh to finish his degree.
Gary began a career in sales and, shortly after, started his own business. As the founder of Vulcan Metal Sales, he spent over 30 years growing it into a thriving business, encompassing multiple family members and close friends, creating a legacy that continues today.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and having a beer with his lifelong friends. He and his wife most recently spent much of their time between Maryland, cherishing his grandchildren, and Florida, where he loved to take friends and family fishing. His loyal companion and dog, Charlie, accompanied him every time he traveled. Not only was Gary a best friend to many, but he was also a favorite patient of the incredible staff at Johns Hopkins where he frequently provided doughnuts and humor throughout his fight.
Gary is survived by his wife; his children and grandchildren; sister, Debra (Jac Nickoloff); and his wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Tom Horensky.
