Janice (Gambino) Barone

Janice (Gambino) Barone, age 86, born May 11, 1940, of Munhall (formerly of Swissvale, PA; North Huntington, PA; Rector, PA; The Villages, FL; and Monroeville, PA), passed peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2026, into the presence of her Lord and Savior at UPMC Presbyterian in the care of hospice, while surrounded by family.

Beloved wife of the late Eugene J. Barone; and daughter of the late Frank and Irene Gambino. She is survived by her brother, Frank A. (Dolores "Dolly") Gambino; step-daughters, Suzanne, Sandy, and Sherry; step-grandchildren; niece, Dr. Nancy Walker; great-nieces, Abigail (Shane), and Emily; and her three beloved cats, Posh, Odette, and Fancy.

Janice was a generous supporter of animal rescue organizations and an avid reader. She leaves a legacy within the legal, educational, and arts communities. A University of Pittsburgh and Duquense University alum, Janice obtained her Juris Doctor (J.D.) and practiced as a corporate attorney at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Mellon Bank, and UPMC Legal in Western PA. During her career, Janice accumulated numerous recognitions and awards for her legal and educational contributions. Notably, she received the Pro Bono award for her legal contributions to the community in Western PA. 

An exceptional sculptor, Janice was actively involved in the arts community, instructing art classes at the Westmoreland Art Center in Latrobe, PA, and The Villages, FL. A contributor to various charities and organizations, she taught Latin studies abroad in Italy early in her career on behalf of receiving the Fullbright Scholarship. Janice will be remembered for her creativity, kindness, and love of learning among family and friends.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of UPMC Presbyterian's 6FG ICU for the exceptional care and support during Janice's last days. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 4-8 PM at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA 15120., with a Blessing Service at 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable contributions be given to a cat rescue organization of your choice in memory of Janice and her love of animals.
