John passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2022, surrounded by his family, after a short but brave battle with brain cancer. John was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, but ultimately found his home in Pittsburgh. John spent the majority of his career at the computer center at the University of Pittsburgh, where he held many roles over the years. After his retirement from Pitt, John got to spend more time with family, and at his favorite places; their cottage on 12 Mile Island and their home in Fort Myers, Florida. He moved into the role of Pap with ease and played a special role in the lives of his grandchildren, Brady and Maura. John was loving, and patient, and never met a person that he wasn’t interested in learning more about. He will be forever missed by his wife Barbara (Repasi) Heron, daughter and son-in-law Kelly and Jason Dugan, grandchildren Brady and Maura, Lynda Heron, and brother Tom (Janet) Heron. He is also survived by many brothers and sisters in law; Joe (Marie) Repasi, Rose (deceased Tom) Repasi, Lou Lou (deceased John) Collins, Karen (David Hromanik) Repasi, Carol (Jim) Sprankle, Kathy (Bob) Andrey, and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond F. and Rita R. Heron, and his brother, Edmond F. Heron. Special thanks to Lou Lou Collins for all your love and care over the last few months. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Tunnels to Towers charity or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, June 21, 2 - 4 PM and 6 - 9 PM at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA 15120, where a Panachida Service will be held at 7 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 10 AM, at the St. Elias Byzantine Catholic Church, Munhall. Interment will follow at St. Elias Cemetery, West Mifflin.
