John Murray Obituary

John T. Murray, of Munhall, formerly of Hazelwood, passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2026, at the age of 77.

He was the loving husband of 43 years of Emelyn Kelly; loving father of John "Jack" (Chantal) Murray, Jr., Shea (Justin Drexler) Murray, Shannon (Matthew Clark) Murray, and Shane (Erin) Murray; adoring grandfather of Chance and Brendan Murray, Destiny Green, Pierce, Peyton, and Parker Drexler, Connor and Kyler Clark, and Brielle and Brinley Murray; great-grandfather of 2; son of the late John Dominic and Theresa Geraldine (O'Malley) Murray; brother of William (Diane) Murray and the late Karen Murray.

John was a true sports enthusiast with a lifelong passion for football. He played semiprofessionally for the Pittsburgh Colts and rarely missed the chance to cheer on his favorite teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pitt Panthers, and Central Catholic Vikings. A proud 1966 graduate of Central Catholic High School, he remained deeply connected to the school and its traditions throughout his life. He was also a devoted member of St. Stephen's Church. He loved coaching just as much as playing, and those who knew him can still hear his favorite saying: “bend over, grab both ears…” if you knew him, you know the rest! John’s quick wit and great sense of humor made him unforgettable, and he carried his Irish heritage with deep pride. Most of all, John believed friendship meant family. Once you were in his circle, you were cared for, supported, and welcomed for life.
