Joseph A. "Smoking Joe" Diaz

Joseph A. Diaz, of Munhall passed away on March 15, 2026, at the age of 75.

He was the beloved husband of 54 years of Darla (Schamus) Diaz; loving father of Lisa (Roy) Campbell, Joseph (Kim) Diaz, Dana (Jim) Metcalfe, Brad (Jess Wilczek) Diaz, and the late Joseph Diaz, Lorrie Diaz and Darrell Wallace; treasured grandfather of Darrel, Sheila, Jason, Roy, BJ, Freddy, Mason, Cheyenne, Tripp, Katelynn, Austyn, James, Emit, Mila, and the late Ashley; great-grandfather of 25 with 2 on the way; son of the late Joseph Diaz and Dorothy Mae (Trainer) Diaz; brother of Michael Diaz, Keith Ribich, Rose (Don) Polowsky, Mary Nesky, and the late Donna, Patty, and Pixie; also survived by generations of nieces and nephews, and his "adopted" sons, Chris (Katie) Smith and Todd Little John.

Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman who rarely let a season pass without heading into the woods or out on the water. He took great pride in sharing his knowledge, always eager to teach the newest grandchild, family member, or friend the skills he loved so much. Joe had a deep appreciation for oldies music and could often be found dancing and enjoying the simple moments of life.

A talented builder with a strong work ethic, he founded and proudly operated his own business, JD’s Contracting, for more than 30 years, earning the respect of many in his community. Earlier in his life, Joe worked at U.S. Steel and spent time driving tractor trailers. While he was proud of his work and accomplishments, nothing meant more to him than his family. He treasured every moment with them and lovingly referred to them as “Pap’s Tribe,” a name that reflected the deep bond, pride, and love he had for those closest to him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2-4 & 6-8 PM, and Monday, March 23, 1-4 PM at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA 15120. A Blessing Service will take place on Monday, March 23, 4 PM, at the funeral home.
