Joseph "Omar" Ballas

Joseph “Omar” Ballas, of Munhall, passed way on March 17th, 2026. He was the beloved husband for 51 years to Susan (Muha) Ballas; the son of the late Michael and the late Mary (Tutko) Ballas; the loving father of Angie (Ryan) McConnell and Michael (Lindsey) Ballas; the brother of Audrey (late Gene) Kamensky, Dorothy (late Jim) O’Malley, late Robert (Joan survives) Ballas; grandfather of Kendall McConnell and Nolan McConnell. Joseph will be missed by many other family and friends and especially his fur-friends; Hunter, Bo, and Larry.

Joseph lived a life of service to his family and to his community. He worked at US Steel for 30 years, served as a Munhall Borough councilman for many years, was a current member of Munhall Sanitary Sewer Municipal Authority, served for 20 years or more on the Munhall Democratic Party Committee. Joseph was also avid fan of all things Pitt sports.

Most importantly, Joseph was a loving husband, father, and grandfather because “to know Omar is to love Omar.”

Friends and family to be received at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, 15120, on Friday, March 20th, 2026, from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM. A blessing service will take place the following day at the funeral home at 12 PM. Family and friends are welcome to arrive between the hours of 10 AM and 12 PM for a morning visitation.
