Age 84, of Munhall, PA passed away on November 13, 2020. She was born at home in Mt. Oliver on November 14, 1935. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, class of 1953 and retired from the United States Post Office as a postal clerk. Marlene’s love and dedication to her family was always her first priority. She prided herself in being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother “GiGi”. She was a member of St. Therese Church which is now part of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. Marlene was a member of the Resurrection choir and Bible study group. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader, Monday prayer group and Mother’s group member. She also was a volunteer for the Pittsburgh Melanoma Foundation in memory of her late husband, Joe, where she won a medal for her age group accomplishment at their 5K in 2012. She was an avid crocheter and loved traveling with her family and friends. She loved her breakfast group and Girl Scout mom’s meetings. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Vavrek; her parents Stella and Frank Fracek; brothers Frank Fracek Jr. and Edmund Fracek; her sister Eleanor Messer and her nephews Raymond “Chip” Petro and Glen Reichard. She was cared for by her family and Suncrest Hospice at home in her final days. She is survived by her daughters, Darlene (Ron) Ralph, Patty Van Dyke and Lauren Simko (Mike Sechrist); her grandchildren William “BJ” Ralph (Rebekah), Joseph Ralph (Christine), Erica Crislip (Ryan), Patrick VanDyke (Doug Mizak), Alex VanDyke (Brittney), Drew Simko and Layne Simko; her great grandchildren Kherington Ralph, Braxton Ralph, Emery Ralph, Maris Ralph, Andi Ralph, Norah Ralph and Slade VanDyke; her sister Donna Petro; her brothers Ray (Rose) Fracek and Len (Margaret) Fracek; also countless nieces, nephews, family and friends. Family and friends will be received at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall on Monday from 5-8 PM and Tuesday from 2-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, 10 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, St. Therese Church, Munhall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pittsburgh Melanoma Foundation or Suncrest Hospice.
