Nancy Rozgonyi Obituary

Nancy Evelyn Rozgonyi (born Nunziata Evaline Zappa), of Lincoln Place, went home to the Lord peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2025, after spending her final days being surrounded by family and friends.

Born amid the Great Depression to an Italian immigrant father and second-generation Italian immigrant mother, Nancy knew the meaning of hard work, perseverance, and strength - virtues that were proudly displayed during her 92 and a half years of life.

People were drawn to Nancy. No matter who encountered her, they left different than before. Always willing to listen and care, she was loved deeply by everyone who knew her. Not only did her family feel this love, but so did the countless people who became her ‘adopted’ family.

Nancy was a true nurturer, building a home that was a place of refuge. Everyone who came through her door was greeted with a smile, an offering of food, and told to take their coat off and sit. She loved and cherished her animals. It has been said that there isn’t a dog in the world who didn’t love her.

She was a caregiver. In the final years of her husband of 68 years, John M. Rozgonyi Sr., Nancy could be found every day at the nursing home caring for him. Of course, she made friends with her drivers and the nurses caring for her husband, once again leaving a lasting impression on everyone who encountered her.

While many people knew her as “Nancy”, quite possibly even more people knew her as “Grammy”. Nobody was prouder of her grand and great-grandchildren than she was. She achieved her goal of seeing all her grandchildren find love and attended all their weddings.

She is preceded in death by her husband John M. Rozgonyi Sr.; father Ortenzio Zappa Sr.; mother Letizia Zappa; and siblings Antonio Zappa, Rose Esther Chernotowich, Eleanor Scenna, Francis Zappa, Carl Zappa Sr., and Ortenzio Zappa Jr.

She is survived by her three children: John “Skip” (Marianne) Rozgonyi Jr., Ron (Coreen) Rozgonyi, Nancy (Vincent) Marasco; seven grandchildren: Lori (Bryce) Steel, Zachary (Lauren) Rozgonyi, Cara (Philip) Remaley, Caitlin (Josh) Beckert, Hannah (Travis) Rogan, Trinity (Mark) Meyer, Levi (LeeAnn) Marasco; and 7 great-grandchildren: Brooke and Bria Steel, Zachary John “Z.J.” Rozgonyi, Noah Beckert, Matteo Marasco, and Michael Remaley with another wonderful great-grandchild, Ezra, expected by Zachary and Lauren in May. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
