Paul H. Weir Jr.

Paul H. Weir Jr. of West Homestead on June 7th 2026, at the age of 100.

Paul was born the second son of Paul and Marie (Flowers) Weir in Mammoth, PA. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant (Hurst) High School, Class of 1943. At the age of seventeen, he volunteered as an Air Raid Warden, and at eighteen, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard an amphibious gunboat from the Philippines through the occupation of Japan, earning two Battle Stars for his service.

After returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy (Bizup) Weir of Acme, PA. They shared fifty-five wonderful years together, raising a family of seven children: Paul and Sally of Oklahoma; Gerald and Shelley of West Mifflin; Ken and Loretta of Pittsburgh; Kathy and Chris Carnegie of Jefferson Hills; Lawrence and Joan of Ohio; and David and Chris of West Homestead; and the late John and Nancy (survives) of Greensburg.

He is survived by 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren (and counting), his sister Mary Louise and her husband Ed Zimmerman of Youngwood and sister-in-law Leona Weir of Mammoth and a long-time friend, Clara Shelott of Pittsburgh, PA.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Frank and Ray of Mammoth, Tom of Tennessee, Elmer of Harrisburg, James of Connellsville; his sister Rose Marie Domasky of Norvelt, Alice Kupura of Greensburg, Rebecca Hibbs of Blairsville.

For 30 years, Paul was a pillar of the community, managing his service station at the corner of 7th and 8th Avenue. He was instrumental in organizing the West Homestead Little League, and he proudly served as President and Chief of the West Homestead Volunteer Fire Company. He was a past Commander of VFW Post 8792 in West Homestead and a Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 4210 in West Mifflin. He was also a member of the Color Corps of the Stephen P. Barry Assembly, Fourth Degree. Paul graciously volunteered his time at the 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Therese Church and as a patient escort at Jefferson Hospital.

On September 13th 2025, Paul was blessed to celebrate his 100th birthday surrounded by family. He loved spending time with friends and family, as well as hunting, the outdoors, and all sports.

Friends received Savolskis-Wasik-Glenn Funeral Home Inc., 3501 Main St. Munhall, PA, on Saturday, June 13th and Sunday, June 14th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 15th at 10 AM at St. Therese Church, St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Munhall. Paul will be laid to rest with full military honors at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
