Regina “Rege” Metzgar Dusch, of Munhall, PA, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at her daughters home in Florida on January 9, 2024, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim “Big Guy” Dusch; her parents, John and Helen Smolley; and brother, Bernie Smolley.
She is survived by her daughter, the "apple of her eye" and her clone, Judi Metzgar Kelch and “Son-in-Law” Mike, of Sanford, FL; her niece, Juliann (Rob) Little of Willow Spring, NC; her great-niece and great-nephew, Zoe and Zack Little, who were more like her grandchildren; and nephew, Matt (Connie) Smolley of Melbourne, FL; as well as numerous cousins.
Rege lived her entire 87 years in Munhall. She worked for US Steel Homestead Works in cost accounting for 29 years until in 1984 a forced retirement came, which at the same time is when Judi had the opportunity to move to Florida which became Rege’s home away from home. She made some very special friendships there just as she had so many lifelong special friendships here in Munhall – she knew LOTS of people and everywhere she went she seemed to run into someone she knew.
4 years ago, Rege sold her home in Munhall Gardens and moved to the Munhall Residence Apartments which she said she didn’t know why she didn’t move sooner. In a short period of time, she made some great new friends there - her family wishes to personally thank those who watched over her, especially over the last 2 years.
Rege LOVED life, be it shopping, going to the casino, out to lunch or dinner (just as long as she didn’t have to cook), and going to the Mifflin Club on Friday nights. She especially looked forward to her Florida visits to see Judi and Mike. Her quick wit was the BEST - she was always ready with a quick comeback.
The last year had been a bit of a struggle, and the plan was for her to move to Florida to be close to Judi and Mike. God had a different plan; He said it was time for her to come home to Him. She is now at peace, and driving and shopping with no more struggles. The best is, she was able to get her nails done before she left this earthly life and her hair was done and lipstick on!
In lieu of flowers (she thought flowers were a waste of money), please go treat yourself to lunch, dinner, a trip to the casino, or do something that brings you joy in memory of my Mom.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 26, 10:30 - 12 noon, at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA 15120. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12 noon at St. Rita Church of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Munhall. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Pittsburgh. After the conclusion of Funeral Services, a Celebration of Rege's Life will be held at the Mifflin Club.
