Age 98, of Mt. Lebanon, on June 5, 2018. Beloved husband of 65 years of the late June (Boucher) Gordy; father of E. Vaughn (Patricia) Gordy III, Chicago, IL, Stephen (Sharon) Gordy, Irwin, PA and the late Calvin S. Gordy and Barbara Gordy; brother of the late Ruth Marie Shanor; grandfather of Jeffrey (Wendy) Gordy, David Gordy, Chicago, IL, Susan (David) Street, North Huntington, PA and Christopher Gordy; great grandfather of Charlotte and Asher Street. Vaughn was a star baseball pitcher at Mercersburg Academy and Lafayette College, and an avid tennis player who worked tirelessly to restore and improve the tennis facilities in Mt. Lebanon in the 1950s and later helped develop the bocce facilities. He was a Veteran of the Army Air Force serving as a B-24 navigator in WWII. On the 45th of his 50 missions his plane was hit multiple times by enemy fire and crashed into the Adriatic Sea. Trapped in the submerged plane, he fought to survive and was pulled out by a fellow crew member. He was also a member of the Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church for over 75 years where he served as a deacon, an elder and teacher of an adult bible study classes for many years. Burial with military honors, will be Monday, June 25th at 10 AM at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
