Elizabeth Magee Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Magee (Bellas), 94, died December 13, 2020, peacefully surrounded by her loving family.  Betty was born in New Kensington, PA to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Bellas. Shortly afterwards, the family moved to Wilkes-Barre, PA. At the young age of 16, her father tragically perished in a coal mining accident, and she, along with her mother, 2 brothers, and sister, moved back to New Kensington. As the eldest of the 4 children, she cared for her siblings while her mother worked to support the family.  She engaged in her studies and after graduating high school, Betty moved to Washington D.C. where she worked as an administrative assistant at the Pentagon during World War II. Upon her return to New Kensington, she met and married the love of her life, Lester R. “Fibber” Magee. They were blessed with 3 children, Cheryl, Sharon and Kathie. Betty devoted her life to caring for her husband, her children, and her family. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St Joseph’s Church in New Kensington for many years. She continued practicing her faith at St. Therese of Lisieux Church after moving to Munhall, PA.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 59 wonderful years, Lester “Fibber” Magee; her daughter, Cheryl Magee (Ken survives) Hebert of San Antonio, Texas; her sister, Dorothy Grotefend of New Kensington; and brother, Joseph Bellas of Daytona Beach, FL.  She is survived by her daughters Sharon Magee (Rege) Cumpston of Munhall, and Kathie Magee (James) Ellzey of Blue Bell, PA; brother, Robert “Bob” Bellas of Pawleys Island, SC; as well as many nieces and nephews. Blessed with a beautiful sense of humor and caring nature, she will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
