Jack M. Stoken, a long-time resident of West Mifflin, passed away on November 16, 2021, at the age of 96 following a lengthy illness. Jack was a World War II veteran, having served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps. After completing his military service Jack earned an Electrical Engineering degree from Carnegie Tech and later earned an Industrial Management degree from Geneva College.
Mr. Stoken enjoyed a long and successful career with U. S. Steel Corporation, serving in a number of positions of increasing responsibility until his retirement in 1983 as Superintendent of Maintenance at Edgar Thomson Works. After his retirement, Jack was a consultant with UEC, sharing his expertise with other countries in Eastern Europe and Indonesia. He was also very active as a volunteer at the Blood Bank and with Carnegie Mellon’s alumni committee.
Jack married his college sweetheart, Lillian Moravecky, in 1947 and they were happily married until her passing in 2011.
Throughout his life, Jack enjoyed spending time with his family boating, water skiing, golfing & hunting. He was an avid builder & flyer of remote control planes and once served as president of the Mon Valley RC club.
He is survived by his two daughters, Dr. Jacqueline M. Stoken of Des Moines, IA, and Janice L. (the late Richard) Bonacci of West Mifflin, PA; three sons, Marc F. (Michelle) Stoken of Houston, PA., Dr. Drew J. (Kathleen) Stoken of Carlisle, PA and Dr. Don E. (Christine) Stoken of Aspers, PA. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who brought great joy to his life, and was preceded in death by his dear companion, Louise Pokrifka.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 5, 2021, 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the SAVOLSKIS -WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA 15120. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021, 10 AM, at Resurrection Church of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, West Mifflin. Interment to follow at Jefferson Memorial Park, Pittsburgh.
