James A. "Jim" Prepelka, of Mt. Lebanon, was welcomed home by his beloved late wife, Olga, on March 5, 2021, at the age of 85. He was the son of the late Andrew and Mary "Marie" (Halchak) Prepelka; beloved husband of 58 years to the late Olga (Terpak) Prepelka; devoted father of Sandra (Patrick) Young and Catherine (Douglas) Trumpower; adoring grandfather of Samantha Trumpower and Maxwell and Alexa Young, with whom he treasured spending his time; and brother of Betty Lou (George) Valociek and the late Mary Ann (Park "Butch") Custer.
Jim was born and raised in Homestead, earned the title of Eagle Scout, and graduated from Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon University) with a Master of Science degree, specializing in mechanical engineering. Throughout his career, Jim worked for the US Army Corp of Engineers as a first lieutenant in the civil engineering division, and held positions at Mesta and US Steel before retiring as an international consultant where he traveled the world to inspect steel mills and coke ovens. He was a history buff, and enjoyed learning about WWII-era planes, Pittsburgh trolleys, and trains. As a member of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society, Jim took great pride in his heritage and customs and held a love for polka music. He was a devoted member of the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church.
Family and friends will be received at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, on Monday, March 8, from 6-8 PM, during which a Panachida Service will be held at 7 PM. A Funeral Service will be Tuesday, March 9, 10 AM, at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Homestead. Everyone please meet at church. Jim will join his wife in a private committal service at the Mt.
