Francis P. Marasco, of West Mifflin, passed peacefully after a hard battle with cancer on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the age of 79.
He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Mary R. (Spinosa) Marasco; proud father of Vince (Nancy) Marasco and Frank (Christine) Marasco of Marietta, OH; adoring Pap-Pap of Zach (Lauren) Rozgonyi, Trinity (Mark Meyer) Marasco, Levi (LeeAnn) Marasco, Christian Marasco, Francesca Marasco, Valentina Marasco, and Nico Marasco; loving great-grandfather of ZJ Rozgonyi, with another wonderful great-grandchild expected by Levi and LeeAnn in August; also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty (Oravec) Marasco; and brother, Richard (wife, Linda, survives) Marasco, as well as their children, Richie and Danielle.
Fran was born in Wilkinsburg, PA, on February 6, 1945, and was raised in Wilmerding, PA. He graduated from Westinghouse Memorial High School and went on to proudly serve his nation in the US Navy - Vietnam War era as an aircraft mechanic working on the F-4 Phantom jets. He was employed by the Port Authority of Allegheny County and after retirement worked another twenty years for Federated Investors to a second retirement.
Restoring classic cars was one of his many hobbies and interests; he was a former member of the Allegheny Packard Club and current member of the Tri-State Chapter of the Professional Car Society, where he served as President for fourteen years. Fran was also an avid collector of 45 rpm doo-wop records and Pittsburgh sports memorabilia. He was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Church of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Munhall, where he served as a Eucharistic minister.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, April 12, 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA 15120. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 13, 10 AM, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Homestead. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Park, Pittsburgh.
