Of Mt. Lebanon, passed away at age 88 on July 29, 2018 in New Wilmington, PA. He was born on March 15, 1930 in Gammesfeld near Schwabish Hall, Germany to Wilhelm and Martha the oldest of 3 boys. Growing up in war-torn Germany, he didn’t have much of a childhood. After his School Headmaster father died serving his country, Gerhard, along with his younger brothers Helmut and Reinhold, emigrated to Pittsburgh with their mother in 1950. Shortly afterward, he was drafted to serve in the Korean War and has proudly worn his Korean War Veteran baseball cap ever since.
In 1960, Gary married Margaret H. Kapalo Pflugfelder with whom he lived in the Pittsburgh area; they lived in Mount Lebanon since 1971.
Gary started his working career as a skilled Draftsman but he lost patience working for someone else. Gary became self-employed as an Insurance Agent and finally as a Landlord but his true passion was cars--especially 60’s and 70’s Mopars (Chryslers, Dodges and Plymouths). He was a member of Pittsburgh C.A.R.S. for many years and could be found at car cruises around the South Hills area.
Gary is survived by his wife Margaret of New Wilmington, PA, his children; Mark and his wife Shirley of Ramsey, NJ, John and his wife Karen of New Castle, PA and Sandy of Port Chester, NY, his Grandson Eric of Ramsey, NJ, and his brother Helmut and his wife Elissa of Pittsburgh, PA. Gary was predeceased by his brother Reinhold.
