Kyran J. "Chuck" Mangold Obituary

Kyran J. "Chuck" Mangold, of Munhall, left for Sturgis a little early on December 19, 2022, at the age of 74.

Chuck put up a valiant fight against lung and brain cancer for over 11 years, never once letting his disease hold him back from experiencing life. He'd be proud to say he was in remission when he died; his lungs were just too tired this time around for his recent illness. He was a rock for so many people, and was surrounded by their love and tears when he decided he was ready to hit the open road for the last time.

He had an irreverent sense of humor which his daughter, who is writing this, unfortunately inherited. He loved corny jokes, really weird Syfy original movies, the Weather Channel, t-shirts with giant animal faces on them (his closet closely resembles the Pittsburgh Zoo), and the wonton soup from Dragon Chinese on Main Street. The man loved a good gossip session, and looked forward to his morning phone calls with his brother, Bert.

Some of his most cherished memories took place in Ocean City, MD, where he once traumatized his family, friends, every person he walked by, and, especially, the young summer worker at the Henna stand by getting a tattoo around his herniated belly button he lovingly named "Irene." He loved the beach and would often be found sipping a beer or coffee on the docks with his fishing pole, solving the world's problems with his best friend, Debbie Wilson.

He had a borderline obsession with Harley Davidson Motorcycles, and loved to tinker with his bikes. He'd often disappear from the house, sneaking his helmet out the door. Sure enough, you'd hear a rumble a few minutes later as Chuck dashed off to meet up with his brother, Hank, for their Date Nights. He would look forward to the Mangold Brothers Sturgis trips. We can't say much more about those on a public forum. Just ask to see the pictures.

He was most proud of his family. He died just 3 days short of his 39th wedding anniversary to the love of his life, Rosemary R. (Helkowsky) Mangold. He was a devoted husband and built a beautiful life together with Rose for the 46 wonderful years they shared. She gave him his greatest treasure, his adoring daughter and partner in crime, Kyra C. (Adam) Mangold-Ostovich. He was her biggest supporter in everything she did, from band camp to basketball to mortuary school. She counts her blessings that he was not only able to walk her down the aisle in 2020, but was able to dance with her at her wedding reception a year later. Side note, he was a GREAT dancer. Dad, we're so lost without you.

He was the son of the late Albert J., Sr. and Mary Catherine (Kiernan) Mangold; beloved brother of Albert J. (Barbara) Mangold,  Jr., Rose Mangold-Pierce, Henry J. "Hank" (Colleen) Mangold, and the late Leo (Norma Jean survives) Mangold; son-in-law of the late Louise Helkowsky-Schultz, who is anxiously waiting on him to pick her up for a coffee date at the Afterlife branch of Eat'n Park; brother-in-law of Anita (Doug) Shontz; "crazy Uncle Chuck" of Lisa (Brent) Graham, Brent Mangold, Rob (Motoko) Tichi, Ashley (Adam) Borrelli, Shannon (Jeff) Froetschel, and Barry, David and Cindy Mangold, along with their families; special cousin of James Kirk, whom he loved to ride with; and last but not least, he will be missed by his furry companions, cats, Chungus "Chunk" Humongous and Bean, his grand-corgi, Yoshi, and grand-cat, Bella. Newton, Dorito, and a score of others are waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for their nap buddy.

He was beloved by his many friends and neighbors who became his extended family, including David and Debbie Wilson and their family, Steven Levine and his family, Michael and Donna Perovich and their family, and the rest of the Woodlawn neighborhood. Chuck always loved you and often reminisced about the years spent growing our families together.

He was a Veteran of the Army, serving during the Vietnam Era driving tanks. He had an over 40-year career with the US Army Corps of Engineers as a lock and dam operator on the Lock and Dam #2, Monongahela River.

Family and friends will be received at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME INC. 3501 Main Street, Munhall on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM where a Celebration of his Life will be held at 7:30 PM.
