Thomas J. Rettger, of West Homestead, passed peacefully at home on January 11, 2022, at the age of 70. He was the son of the late Donald and Mary (Chismar) Rettger; brother of Donna Griska, Marlene Laird, and the late Lawrence Rettger; nieces and nephews, Amy (Jeff) Martello, Brigid (Shawn) Case, Michael and Robb Griska, and John P. (Ashley), IV, Mark (Brittany), Daniel, and Scott Laird; and great-nieces, Josephine Case, and Everly and Cecilia Laird; as well as many cousins.
He was a former employee of U.S. Steel, and he proudly served on the Honor Guard in Washington D.C. Tom loved his church family, and attending their events, especially the fish fry. He knew everyone in the neighborhood, and took care of them, their children, and pets. In kind, they took care of him. The family would like to thank Larry and Janie for all of their love and kindness, as well as the Kraus family for "adopting" Tom, especially Ian, Bella, Harley, and Tom's best friend, Carter.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 15, 1-4 PM at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA 15120. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 20, 10 AM, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Homestead. Everyone please meet at church. Interment will follow at 2 PM at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CEMETERY NO LATER THAN 1:45 PM. Condolences may be left at www.swgfuneralhome.com.
