William Jay "Bill" Glunk Obituary

On Sunday, December 17, 2023, my beloved husband William Jay Glunk and Molly’s dear father ended his earthly journey and stepped into the warm embrace and bright light of a merciful God.

A grand reunion occurred at the gates of Heaven. Those waiting to greet him include his son, Paul, who has been waiting 17 years to see his dad again; his father and mother, Bill and Rhoda Glunk; along with his younger brother, Peter Glunk; and a host of other family members and friends will be gathered to greet him as well.

As excited as his heavenly family and friends are to reunite again, those left behind, including his loving wife Jan (Szekely) Glunk; daughter, Molly Glunk; grandson, Noah Jakob Glunk; sisters, Sr. Rhoda Kay Glunk, SCN, and Phyllis (Lee) Salvatori; best friend, Frank Stuparitz; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins will miss him greatly.

The first half of Bill (Jay)’s life was dedicated to answering God’s call to the priesthood. He was educated at the Bishop’s Latin School, Duquesne University, and graduated from the North American College in Rome, Italy where he earned an STL. After completing his studies, he was ordained a Catholic priest for the Diocese of Pittsburgh in 1973 and served in several parishes until 1982.

The second half of  his life began when he met Jan. They were married in 1982. He totally dedicated himself to his family. In 1983 he earned his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh working with NCR and Value City Dept. Store. However, he often would say that his greatest privilege was joining Jan in raising their two children. He cherished the time he spent with them. William Jay Glunk is leaving the world a better place because of his unique presence, his mild and caring personality. May He Rest in Peace.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, December 28, 2-4  & 6-8 PM at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall, PA 15120. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 29, 10 AM. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
